Why Can’t I Work More Than 20 Hours?

I came to Korea to study and experience the culture, but I’m struggling to survive. Rent is high, food is expensive, and I can only legally work 20 hours a week. It’s not enough. I want to work more, but if I do, I could lose my visa.

Korean students can work freely. But we, international students, are constantly monitored. One friend got caught working extra hours and was forced to leave the country.

I love Korea, but this feels unfair. We pay high tuition, live far from family, and still have to worry about basic survival.

What do you think? Should international students be allowed to work more hours? Or should they focus only on studies?

You're not alone. The 20-hour limit feels completely disconnected from how expensive life here really is. It’s not about “extra money” — it’s about surviving.
