I have naturally curly hair.
While riding the subway, a woman next to me suddenly touched my hair and smiled, saying, “So cool!”
I didn’t know what to say. It felt uncomfortable. She meant no harm, maybe. But shouldn’t personal space be respected?
My Korean friend said, “Don’t overreact. Koreans are just curious.” But would it be okay if I touched a stranger's hair back?

That’s not okay. Curiosity doesn’t justify crossing someone’s personal boundaries. Imagine if the roles were reversed — people wouldn’t take it lightly.

Curiosity doesn’t excuse crossing someone’s boundaries. You weren’t overreacting — you were reacting like any human would.

Curiosity isn’t a free pass to ignore boundaries. If you touched a Korean stranger’s hair and said ‘so cool,’ would they be okay with it? Probably not.
